Brown Trout

While not as widely known as other areas in Wisconsin, Lannon offers some surprisingly good brown trout fishing in the nearby streams and rivers. Focus your attention on the smaller tributaries that feed into the larger waterways; these often hold surprisingly good populations of browns. Spring and fall are the best times to target them, as the water temperatures are cooler and the trout are more active. Wading is typically required, so be prepared with appropriate gear. Access to these streams can be challenging, often requiring permission from landowners, so be sure to respect private property. A small selection of dry flies, nymphs, and streamers will cover most situations. Local tip: Pay attention to water levels after rain events, as these smaller streams can become turbid quickly. The browns here tend to be wild and wary, so stealth is key.
