Brown Trout

Marquette, Wisconsin, and its surrounding waters offer some excellent opportunities to chase Brown Trout. While not as prolific as some other trout destinations, the area's rivers and streams, particularly those flowing into the Fox River, hold some surprisingly large browns. The best time to target them is during the fall spawning run, when they migrate upstream. However, spring can also be productive as the water warms and insect hatches increase. Focus your efforts on deep pools, undercut banks, and areas with woody debris. A local tactic is to use streamers or crankbaits that imitate smaller baitfish, as the brown trout in this area are known to be predatory. Be aware that some sections of these rivers may have special regulations or access restrictions, so check local guidelines before fishing. Patience and persistence are key, but the reward of landing a trophy brown trout is well worth the effort.
