Brown Trout

Paddock Lake presents a unique opportunity for anglers in southern Wisconsin – the chance to target Brown Trout in a lake environment. While primarily known for its bass and panfish, Paddock Lake receives Brown Trout stockings from the Wisconsin DNR. These fish tend to be more elusive than the stocked rainbows, often holding in deeper water or near structure. The best times to target them are in the spring and fall, especially during periods of cooler water temperatures. Try trolling crankbaits or spoons in deeper water, or casting streamers or nymphs near the shoreline. A local tip is to focus on areas with submerged timber or rocky structure, as these provide ideal habitat for brown trout.
