Brown Trout

Prentice, Wisconsin offers some fantastic Brown Trout fishing opportunities, particularly in the spring and fall. The Jump River, winding its way through Price County, is a prime location, offering classic trout stream structure with plenty of overhanging banks and woody debris where browns like to hide. Early spring, just after ice-out, can be especially productive as the trout are actively feeding. Similarly, late fall, before the freeze, sees another surge in activity as they prepare for winter. A great access point is the public land near County Highway D; look for parking areas and established trails leading to the river. Be aware that water levels can fluctuate significantly after rain, so check local conditions before you head out. The browns here are generally wild and can be quite wary, so stealth and a natural presentation are key. Consider using small spinners or drifting nymphs under an indicator to entice a strike.
