Brown Trout

Walworth, Wisconsin, while not immediately known for its trout fishing, offers some surprisingly good opportunities for brown trout, particularly in the spring-fed streams and rivers that wind through the county. The White River, a smaller tributary, is a prime example. These waters are sustained by cold springs, which keep water temperatures suitable for browns even during warmer months. Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) are the peak seasons, as the trout become more active with the cooler water and spawning urges. A local tip: Focus on areas with overhanging vegetation and deeper pools, as brown trout are ambush predators. Public access can be limited, so be sure to consult local DNR maps and respect private property. The browns here aren't typically trophy-sized, but they are wild and feisty, offering a rewarding experience for fly anglers and spin fishermen alike. Expect browns in the 10-16 inch range, with the occasional larger fish.
