Brown Trout

While not as renowned as other parts of Wisconsin, Wyeville offers some decent brown trout fishing opportunities, primarily in the Lemonweir River and its tributaries. These streams, though relatively small, hold surprisingly good numbers of browns that thrive in the cool, clear water. Spring and fall are the best times to target them, with spring hatches providing excellent dry fly fishing opportunities. Nymphing with small patterns can also be effective, especially during periods of low water. Access to the Lemonweir can be found at several road crossings, but be mindful of private property. A local trick is to focus on areas with undercut banks and woody debris, as these provide ideal hiding spots for trout. The browns in this area tend to be wild and wary, so stealth and accurate casting are crucial for success. Also be aware of seasonal regulations regarding catch and release.
