Flounder

If flatfish are your target, Jekyll Island offers excellent opportunities for flounder fishing. The fall is prime time, as flounder migrate inshore before heading offshore for the winter. Focus on the muddy bottom of the Brunswick River and the inshore creeks around the island. Live mud minnows or finger mullet dragged slowly along the bottom are hard for a flounder to resist. Drifting with the tide can also be effective. Pay attention to structure like docks, pilings, and oyster beds, as these areas often hold flounder ambushing prey. A good boat ramp is located at the Jekyll Island Marina, providing easy access to the best flounder flats. Be aware of the strong tides and currents in the area, and use enough weight to keep your bait on the bottom.
