Flounder fishing near Grand Island presents a unique, albeit challenging, opportunity. While not a traditional flounder hotspot, these fish can be found in the calmer, shallower waters of Lake Erie and the Niagara River's lower reaches. Focus your efforts on areas with muddy or sandy bottoms, particularly near docks, piers, and weed beds. The best time to target flounder is during the spring and early summer when they move into these areas to feed. A simple bottom rig baited with worms or small pieces of clam is often effective. Given the variable water conditions, using a fish finder to locate suitable habitat is highly recommended. A local tip is to try drifting along the bottom with your bait, covering more ground and increasing your chances of finding a flounder.
