Known locally as Ulua, Giant Trevally are a prized catch around Ewa Beach, offering thrilling battles for shore and boat anglers alike. These powerful fish patrol the reef edges, harbors, and rocky shorelines, ambushing prey. Early morning or late evening are prime times, especially during the incoming tide. For shore anglers, casting poppers or stickbaits near structure is effective, while boat anglers can target Ulua by jigging near reefs or trolling live bait. Look for areas with strong currents, as Ulua often congregate in these spots to feed. Be aware that Ulua are known for their powerful runs and ability to break lines on sharp coral, so use heavy tackle and be prepared for a fight.
