Largemouth Bass

Almont, Michigan, offers some surprisingly good Largemouth Bass fishing in its numerous small lakes, ponds, and sections of the Clinton River. While not known for trophy-sized bass, the area provides consistent action and is a great place to hone your skills. Focus on the warmer months, from late spring through early fall, for the most active bass. A key to success here is understanding the local weed growth. Largemouth Bass often relate closely to lily pads, submerged vegetation, and fallen timber. Try flipping jigs or Texas-rigged plastics around these structures. For bank anglers, the Clinton River Greenway provides access to some fishable stretches of the river. Also, be aware that many of the smaller lakes are private, so be sure to obtain permission before fishing. Remember that bass in these smaller waters can be easily pressured, so practice catch and release to help maintain a healthy population.
