Largemouth Bass

Roscommon, Michigan, boasts excellent largemouth bass fishing, thanks to its proximity to Higgins Lake, Houghton Lake, and numerous smaller lakes and ponds. These diverse waters offer a variety of habitat, from clear, deep lakes to weedy, shallow backwaters, catering to different bass fishing styles. The best time to target largemouth here is during the pre-spawn (May-June) when they're aggressively feeding in shallow water. Topwater lures, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics are all effective. Summer (July-August) can still be productive, but you'll need to fish deeper structure and weed edges. Fall (September-October) sees a resurgence in bass activity as they fatten up for winter. A local secret is targeting bass around the many docks and boatlifts that line the shorelines of these lakes. Public access is generally good, with numerous boat launches available. The largemouth in this region are known for their healthy size and aggressive behavior, making for exciting fishing.
