Northern Pike

While not known as a pike hotspot, the Mississippi River backwaters near Garber offer some opportunities for northern pike, especially in the sloughs and weed-choked areas. Early spring, just after ice-out, is a great time to target them as they move into shallow areas to spawn. Fall is also productive as pike feed aggressively before winter. Use large lures like spoons, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. A wire leader is essential to prevent bite-offs. Check the areas around McGregor and Marquette for good access points to the Mississippi backwaters. Be prepared for fluctuating water levels, which can impact pike location and activity. Focus on areas with current breaks and submerged vegetation.
