Spotted Bass

Spotted bass, also known as Kentucky bass, are a popular target for anglers in and around Richton, Mississippi. The Leaf River and its tributaries provide excellent habitat for these aggressive fish. Spotted bass tend to prefer areas with current, rocky bottoms, and submerged wood. Look for them near creek mouths, riffles, and log jams. Spring and fall are the most productive seasons, as the fish are actively feeding and preparing for spawning or winter. Smaller crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jigs are effective lures, especially when fished near structure. A good access point is the Highway 15 bridge; from there, you can fish the river by boat or on foot. Spotted bass are known for their hard-fighting nature, making them a fun challenge for anglers of all skill levels. They often inhabit the same waters as largemouth bass, so you might catch both species on the same trip.
