Hybrid Striped Bass

Richton, Mississippi, offers some surprisingly good hybrid striped bass fishing opportunities, primarily in the Chickasawhay River. The best time to target hybrids here is during the spring spawning run as they move upstream, and again in the fall as they fatten up for winter. Several public access points exist along Highway 15, but be prepared for potentially muddy conditions, especially after rainfall. Also, pay attention to water levels, as the river can rise quickly after heavy rains. The hybrids in this area tend to be opportunistic feeders, so a variety of lures and live bait can be effective.
