Walleye fishing near Fort Lee, NJ, presents a unique challenge, as they aren't as abundant as in other parts of the state. However, the Delaware River, a bit of a drive, offers the best shot at hooking into one. Focus your efforts around deeper pools, bridge pilings, and areas with current breaks. Spring and fall are the most productive times, especially during low-light conditions. In the spring, walleye migrate upstream to spawn, making them more concentrated. In the fall, they feed heavily before winter. While there aren't many ramps right in Fort Lee, there are several public boat launches along the Delaware River further upstream in areas like the Delaware Water Gap. Be aware that the Delaware can be a challenging river to navigate, so exercise caution and be prepared for strong currents. Walleye in the Delaware can reach impressive sizes, with fish over 10 pounds possible. Jigging with minnows or using crankbaits are popular techniques.
