While not a renowned walleye hotspot, the Spruce Run Reservoir near Hampton, NJ, does offer a chance to target this prized fish. Spring and fall are generally the best times, with walleye becoming more active as water temperatures cool. Focus your efforts around rocky points, submerged humps, and the dam area. Trolling crankbaits or jigging with minnows are common techniques. A practical tip for Spruce Run: the boat launch area off of Van Syckles Road provides good access to the main body of the reservoir. Be prepared to cover some water, as walleye can be scattered. Local anglers often report success fishing after dark. Check the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife regulations for specific walleye size and creel limits, as these can vary.
