While Keansburg, New Jersey, is primarily known for its saltwater fishing along Raritan Bay, pursuing walleye requires venturing inland to freshwater reservoirs and rivers. Walleye aren't native to this immediate coastal area, but the Delaware River and its tributaries, accessible within a reasonable drive, offer the best opportunities. Spring and fall are prime times, as walleye move into shallower waters to spawn or feed aggressively before winter. Focus on areas with submerged structure, rocky bottoms, and current breaks. A key tip is to check the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife's stocking reports to identify recently stocked waters, as these often hold higher densities of walleye. Also, remember that water clarity can be variable, so adjust your lure presentation accordingly. While Keansburg itself doesn't offer walleye fishing, it can serve as a base for exploring the more productive inland fisheries of northern and western New Jersey.
