Walleye in the Passaic River near Passaic, New Jersey, are a somewhat overlooked but present species. While not a trophy walleye destination, the river does hold a population, especially in the deeper pools and around structure like bridge abutments. The best times to target them are during the spring and fall, particularly during the low-light periods of dawn and dusk. Jigs tipped with minnows or twister tails are effective, as are crankbaits that mimic the river's forage fish. Wading near the Dundee Dam or fishing from a boat (where permitted) can increase your chances. Be prepared for potentially murky water conditions, which can impact lure visibility. The walleye in this section of the Passaic tend to be smaller, but catching one in this urban environment is a rewarding experience. Always check local regulations, as size and creel limits may apply.
