If you're looking for a walleye adventure in northern New Jersey, Paterson offers some surprisingly good opportunities. The Passaic River, which flows through the city, holds a decent population of walleye, especially in the deeper pools and around rocky structures. Target areas below the Great Falls and near any of the old industrial dams or bridge pilings for the best results. Spring and fall are prime times, with the walleye becoming more active as water temperatures cool. Try fishing at dusk or dawn, as walleye are generally more active in low light conditions. A local tip: be mindful of the currents in the Passaic, especially after heavy rains. Using heavier jigs or weights to keep your bait near the bottom is crucial. Also, be aware of access points, as some areas are restricted due to the industrial history of the area; research public access points beforehand.
