Walleye fishing near Ridgewood requires a bit of a drive, but the rewards can be worthwhile. Greenwood Lake, straddling the New York/New Jersey border, is known to hold a decent population of walleye. Monksville Reservoir is another option, although it can be challenging. The best times to target walleye are in the spring and fall, particularly during low-light conditions (dawn and dusk) or at night. Jigging minnows or using crankbaits along rocky points and drop-offs is a common and effective tactic. A key local tip for Greenwood Lake: pay attention to the thermocline during the summer months, as walleye will often congregate near it. A fish finder is essential for locating structure and fish. Also, be aware of the differing regulations between New York and New Jersey if you're fishing Greenwood Lake. While not a walleye hotspot, patience and persistence can lead to some memorable catches.
