Brown Trout

The Driftless Area near Ferryville offers some excellent opportunities for brown trout fishing in its spring-fed streams. These streams, characterized by their cold, clear water and rocky bottoms, provide ideal habitat for wild brown trout. Spring and fall are the prime times to target these fish, as they are more active during cooler water temperatures. Fly fishing is a popular and effective method, with nymphs, streamers, and dry flies all producing results. Spin fishing with small spinners and spoons can also be productive. Access can be limited, as many of these streams flow through private property, so be sure to obtain permission before fishing. The brown trout in this area are known for their wary nature, so stealth and careful presentation are key. Look for them in deeper pools, under cut banks, and near submerged structure. Remember to check the Wisconsin DNR's trout regulations for specific stream closures and size limits.
