Walleye fishing near Demarest, New Jersey, requires a bit of travel, but it can be rewarding. While not abundant in every local waterway, Oradell Reservoir, located a short drive away, is known to hold a population of walleye. The best times to target them are in the spring and fall, particularly during low-light periods. Focus on areas near the dam, rocky points, and deeper sections of the reservoir. A helpful tip is to fish after dark using lighted crankbaits or jigs tipped with live bait. Access to Oradell Reservoir is limited, so be sure to check the regulations regarding boat launches and fishing permits. Walleye in this region can be challenging to catch, but persistence and the right techniques can pay off. Be prepared to fish deep and slow, and don't be afraid to experiment with different presentations. The walleye in Oradell are known to be line-shy, so use fluorocarbon leaders.
