Walleye fishing near Runnemede, NJ, presents a unique challenge, as they are not as prevalent as other species. Your best bet is to head to the larger reservoirs and lakes further north or west in New Jersey, such as Lake Hopatcong or the Delaware River. While not directly in Runnemede, these locations are within a reasonable drive and offer the best chance to target walleye. Spring and fall are the most productive times, especially during the post-spawn period in spring and as water temperatures cool in the fall. Focus on areas with rocky structure, points, and drop-offs. A helpful tip is to check the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife stocking reports, as some lakes may receive supplemental walleye stockings. Also, be prepared to fish at night or during low-light conditions, as walleye are often more active then. While walleye populations aren't booming in South Jersey, dedicated anglers can find success with the right approach and location.
